Understanding Adult Learning and Numeracy

Learning theories such as behaviorism, humanism, social cognitive, and the andragogy model resonate quite well with adult learning. This short course explores the best practices to apply in a bid to ensure maximal adult learning and numeracy. Unlike younger learners, adults may be faced with some challenges or difficulties that may hinder their learning. Tutors should understand such challenges and proper ways of alleviating them.

Did you know that there’s a difference in strategy between adult teaching and learning and teaching younger generations? While children depend on their teachers for knowledge, adult learning and numeracy centres around the autonomy of the adult learner and their quest for knowledge. Whether it is their career, home, or social condition, adults are motivated by a desire to improve their situation in adult life, and therefore adult teaching should be structured with respect to this.
This course will cover the fundamentals of adult literacy and learning, as well as the various viewpoints on adult learning held by the proponents of adult learning theories like behaviorism, cognitivism, and the andragogy model. The importance of lesson plans and assessments, as well as how to teach literacy, will be covered next. Along with these topics, we will also discuss adult learning challenges, technology in learning, adult numeracy instruction approaches, and adult learning policy and practice.
Continuous improvement in knowledge and practice is firmly established when teachers assume responsibility for students’ learning. By enrolling in this course, you will assist a great number of adult learners in expanding their knowledge, learning new skills, and obtaining certificates that will give them a feeling of fulfillment and purpose. This course is best suited for teachers and adult tutors or any one aspiring to become an adult educator. Enroll in this course today to learn an interesting pedagogical approach.
